A new study has uncovered a “cannabis paradox,” where marijuana users hospitalized after heart attacks appeared to have better outcomes than non-users, despite concerns about cannabis’s potential negative impact on heart health. The research analyzed data from 2001 to 2020 and found that cannabis users had lower risks of complications and in-hospital mortality following heart attacks. Researchers noted that the paradox might be partly explained by the younger age of cannabis users and possible protective effects of cannabinoids. However, the study acknowledged limitations and called for further research to better understand the relationship between cannabis use and heart health.
